I'm looking for a reliable source for new collets for my spindle, 1/4" and 1/2".

Thanks,

You can buy them from ShopBot directly or via Techniks (http://www.techniksusa.com/metal/cnaerpci.htm) if you want original/OEM quality. I (and others) didn't have good results with cheap ones.

Like Brady said also applies to collet nuts--Got 2 that I "saved" money on---They will probably sit in the back of my drawer forever- money down the drain :(

I got the ball bearing collet nuts from
http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Collets/ER-Collet-Nuts-Wrenches-and-Spanners

And they are great .....you can feel it tightening up real good without much effort!

And shipping from UK was fast!

Cheers

I was about to order the collets from Shopbot until I went to checkout and saw that the least expensive shipping on two collets was Fedex at $29.70. I'm OK with $40 each for two collets but $29.70 to ship two small items is just too much.

I think they are around $25 ea average price for a quality collet. This is not an area where you want to scrimp & save. If you don't get precision collets, you run the risk of breaking tools, having excessive runout on smaller diameter tools and having to cut the nut off of the spindle because the collapse range was too big.

This is one area where you get what you pay for. Pay now or pay later. You decide.

I use these but you do have to make a minimum order.

Here's another good company for tooling and accessories. I got some excellent collets for some metric sizes from them several years ago. Great Lakes Custom Tooling (http://www.glct.com/index.asp)

I buy only Techniks collets. Not the cheapest but they are some of the best.

Like Brady says, collets is not a place to pinch pennies. Way to much at stake.

Since Techniks only sells wholesale to distributors, I found a local company I have do a lot of blade sharpening for me order from Techniks and drop ship directly to me.

ordered these to see how they would do...have cut a lot of stuff, mostly solid woods with no collet problems. Just because they are cheap and come from overseas does not mean they are sub par quality.
