I have a student that would like to carve a 3d dragon head in the arm of a throne he is making. I would like to do a two sided carving for this. Does anyone know of a good source for a file like this (the dragon head on the arm? http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=celtic+throne+chair&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CAcQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.polycount.com%2Fforum%2Farchi ve%2Findex.php%2Ft-104354.html&ei=gZyJVMeACoOcNqLwgYAK&bvm=bv.81456516,d.cWc&psig=AFQjCNGvsb_1oIcbEJ1Xt8D8cbFBVT6akw&ust=1418389642348789

Here’s one source:
http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-model/mythological-creatures/dragon (http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-model/mythological-creatures/dragon)
Buyer beware... you get what you pay for! Free is usually worth exactly that!

Rick…
I’m by no means the expert, but let me show you what I look for…
Much of the stuff on turbosquid is designed for animation and close is good enough! An amorphous shape with a photo type skin draped on it can look good at 30 frames a second.
My first screen capture shows an interesting dragons head, but note the vertices count. Shot two shows what the Look was draped over… totally useless for us!
Screen capture three shows another interesting candidate… notice its vertices count, about 400X more! The last shot shows a detail of the vertices on the model… more than enough detail for carving or 3D printing…
Yes, you have to be choosy about what you download and much of it is useless for our purposes, but often you can find treasures unavailable anywhere else!
Hope this helps…

But i dont care for turbo squid. the pictures look great but once i had their file on my computer it was useless for 3-d or should i say that i would have carved a terrible project. Total waste of money.
vector art 3-d
3-d model club
or even ebay has a lot of listings.
But there again maybe i am messing up.

Have you checked thingaverse. It's mostly geared at 3d printing, but you should be able to use the models.
