I posted the Christmas beds I made in the 3 days prior to Christmas. My twin Boys are 8 years old. The boy that likes to hunt got the bed with the deer carved on it. My other boy wanted a high bed with steps and 6 drawers under the bed and open shelves on the other end. This boy loves Corvette stingrays. I had most of the drawing done for this bed when I started it today. While I was cutting I found a picture of a car and did a trace and a hour or so of clean up work and modifications for V carving. This is how for I made it in about 10 hours today. I will add more pictures as I work on the project. This bed will be all baltic Bitch 3/4" plywood all cut on the CNC.

The grab rails are awesome. Inspired by whoever inspires the treehouse masters? Anyhoo, great job. Anyone who would fit in that bed would love it!!

Andrew,

Nice work.

I'd like to see a photo of the boys. I'd bet they are cute fellows. Wish I'd had a father like you.
We need more posts like this.

Finished building this bed on Saturday. Spent Monday and today finishing it. The bed never had all the parts put together at shop. The bed has 6 large drawers with soft close undermount slides. The one picture shows the end of the bed. The bed has 2 24" deep shelves behind the doors under the car. The back of the bed has 6 doors with 12" shelves behind them. The boys room is to small for me to get a picture of the back of the bed. It looks cool but we will never see it untill we move to a bigger home. I still need to put the drawer fronts on. I will post a front view of the bed when I get it finished. The bed is is getting it's first night of use tonight with a real happy little boy. The bed used 14 sheets of 4x8 plywood total. Six of the sheets were baltic birch and the rest was maple. I made the drawers out of plywood and pocket screwed them together. I ran out of time to make dovetail drawers. I have 4 full days and 2 part days and 10 hours of sanding help In this crazy bed. Not sure if this bed is worth the material invested in it without any labor but we do have a boy that has his dream bed. I am not sure if he is going to like a bed lime this into his teen years or not. How long do you guys think you would sleep in a bed like this?

Swap out the drawers for a computer station/desk, lift it up a foot and I'd happily go through college with it:)
NICE JOB!

Agreed Scott but beyond that I'm sure he would want to keep it for his own kids WAY WAY WAY down the road. : ) I built a bedroom outfit for a friends kid when he was 4. The bunk beds were passed around a bit but now back at his parents house waiting for him to pick them up and 'fill' them. He's now married and 25.

Did you create the 63 Corvette, or did you find it on-line somewhere?

Andrew, the bed looks awesome!!!

Can you share what you used to stain and finish the bed?

I love the looks of Baltic Birch ply, but when I work with it I always seem to catch an edge with sandpaper or something and rip up a splinter. Have you run into that problem and if so do you have any tricks for dealing with it?

Thanks,
Steve

The finish is the same as the last beds that I posted. It is water base stain and top coat that I had left over from cabinet work. I found a picture of the vet on the net. I took the picture and did I trace with v carve pro. Could have used some more clean up work on my drawing. I spent about a hour getting the drawing usable. My son is loving the bed and all three kids are makeing the beds in the morning and doing better at getting to bed on time at night.
