View Full Version : Wood cupping

Hello
I always "stick" my wood when stacked and leave it for at least a week in my shop to acclimate but at times when carving deep relief cuts across an entire piece, I still tend to get some cupping. I've started creating a relief pocket on the rear of the wood when anticipating this--especially with cuts deeper than 1/2".

Has anyone used a different approach to dealing with wood movement after the carving is complete.

Thanks
Angelo

Angelo,

I have glued a 1/2" to the bottom of the board with the grain going the opposite way to offset this on many of my projects and that seems to help. May not be the best way to do it but it works for me.
