So I am trying to learn new things, today I was cutting my Vac Box from all the help here on the forum. The Bot was in between cut files today, no bit change, all I did is move the gantry out of the way to unscrew a few parts and get them out of the way. Then I did a JH and the bot took off in the opposite direction. Nothing except a control box turn off would stop it. Reset computer and turned control box back on. Started SB software and location was lost.
Funny thing is today is the first job I started zeroing x and y off my limit switches and then using an offset to get to my corner of the 4x8 sheet. (Sorry, had it since 2001 and trying to be more organized this year) So anyway, I rezeroed, did offset, and started it again. Everything lined up great! So That is something good to come out of something bad IMO.
I am about two days away from throwing my control computer in the trash. (literally) Keep in mind this IS an old slow Win XP machine. No problem with it before 4G Board upgrade, but now I have comm isuues often. I will say my machine doesn't run very much in the last few years, my growth has been more in the Digital Printing, part of the sign business.
In the attached pic is a computer about 4 years old that I had sitting on the shelf. I reformatted it yesterday and finished up install of Win XP today while I was cutting on the Bot. It is a desktop I bought from www.tigerdirect.com as a kit to assemble years ago. This will only be my control computer. All design and toolpath is done on other computers and transferred to a thumbdrive, copied to the desktop, thumbdrive removed, and file run. Never any internet or connection to my shop network. Once file is done I delete off the desktop. I am not asking much of this PC.
I don't want to just through money away, but if I should not use this PC I will bite the bullet and buy one. I would rather save the money for something else other than microsoft. Like maybe a 12" Z........:D
But for real, I am trying to finally get my Shopbot setup to be able to handle more volume in the future easier and faster. I am mediocre with my CNC skills because the machine has sat in storage for many years at a time broken down in pieces. But I will never get rid of it. Its got to much sentimental value for that.
