Hey Everyone! I just had the pleasure of burning a hole through my work piece and into the sacrificial table (vacuum hold down...). I am cutting 3/4" furniture grade Pine plywood with an Onsrud .25" compression bit. I have a PRTalpha with a 5hp Colombo. The feed rate is 6" per second & rpm is set to 12,000. I have been trying to cut 6" letters out of the 3/4" furniture grade pine plywood. The problem is I keep getting smoke every time I try to make a cut. I have fried two bits and burnt a hole in my table.... any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Sal

Try these settings:
MS,2,1 @ 14,000 RPM and .25" pass depth with a fresh cutter.
There is NO WAY the tool is going to go 6 IPS on a 6" letter. This will result in clunky movements and quality will be in the gutter.
Try my settings and report back. They are just a baseline, but you can feather in more speed as you see fit later.
Also, choose to ramp into the cut on the profile toolpath options tabs in VCarve Pro.
