I don't use Inventor that often, but have done some projects in it. I have a part I need to cut on the CNC, but am unable to generate a useable file that can be imported into Any other software. Even the DWG exported as an ACAD 2000 file is incompatible with my version of ACAD 2000. If anyone has figured out how to export a dxf from Inventor, please let me know. So far google searches only yield information on importing into inventor.

In pro-e to export a dfx you need to make a drawing first then export or save as dfx, this might be what you need to do will inventor.
just make sure your drawing is a scale of one.

Yes. I create a drawing and place my views in a 1:1 scale. I can save a dwg & idw. I can export to dwg, dwf, images and pdfs. There is no dxf available. The ACAD truview program will only convert a dwg to dwg. It's totally stupid.

I just tried the pdf export. It seems to have worked. I have a real problem trusting engineering drawings to such a format though.
as suspected, the circles aren't actually circles. They are bezier curves.

I use Inventor to create my cabinets parametrically and this is the only way I have found a valid workflow.
create & save the .ipt (part file)
create a drawing file (.idw or .dwg) with the parts that you want to export to your toolpathing software - save the file Whatever is visible will be exported. You can hide/ show lines as well as change the layer name if needed.
then choose "save as" and then "save copy as"
this will give you options to save the drawing as .dxf (from the pull down menu above the file name)
Hope this helps,
Rodney

I finally found a solution. It is different from yours. It is export face as dxf. It shows up when you hover over a face of a 3d object. There is a tutorial here as well:
