Microsoft has announced that the much more powerful Raspberry Pi2 will be getting a version of windows 10 for embedded devices free. Should have less bloatware maybe? Not bad for $35.
Wonder if it will run SB3?

It'll run sb3 all day long.

I have been thinking about this very thing this week. It sounds neat, but to me the Raspberry Pi is not the most economical choice, even at $35. I also have yet to see it for $35, it seems to be $39.99 everywhere I look.
You need monitors, keyboard, mouse, power supply, SD card, wireless network adapter (if wanted) and a case. You could end up spending $200+
For that you could get a decent used laptop with more features and power. For $50 you could get a crappy, old beige desktop just to shoot gcode at the shopbot.
I know the next person is going to post something about how they will build it with used or free parts and it won't cost them but $40. ;)
There is an abundance of old tech laying around that should be recycled rather than trashed!

Here's a couple C|net stories. Here (http://www.cnet.com/news/raspberry-pi-2-model-b-is-a-quad-core-upgrade-on-sale-today/?tag=nl.e404&s_cid=e404&ttag=e404&ftag=CAD1acfa04) and here (http://www.cnet.com/products/raspberry-pi-2-model-b/). The version of Win 10 is a developer version, so not sure how that translates into being able to run SB3.
Been having some fun tinkering with a BeagleBone Black board lately, delving into a bit of Linux.

since my control computer is off line and windows 7 works just great on it i dont see the need to update it. Now that said if i upgrade my design computer will aspire still work and will there be communication problems between the two computers. Also i have a ton of artwork (3d) on my design computer, will i loose it.

No, you shouldn't loose anything, having said that, be sure to do backups, the more the better. I use Aspire on 3 different computers, my latest one is an HP Envy X2 (Tablet/laptop) and when I installed Aspire I also copied all of my files from my other system with no issues. I also have all of my computers networked so I mostly have all the original/newest copies on the desktop the has 11TB with all of the important files on mirrored drives. Also, being an HP employee, I usually have access to multiple technical resources and great pricing on equipment.

if the Pi will run the Shopbot without any problems maybe Shopbot should offer one setup.

I have heard that shopbot is working on a new control board and software. I believe shopbot said it would be ready later this year. Does anybody know anything more?

I can't seem to locate the article but Ted wrote that they were working on arduino as an embedded control system. I tried looking for the article yesterday but finally found it just now: http://www.shopbottools.com/files/ShopBotOpen_OUTLINE.pdf

If you want more info you can look at what they are doing for the HandiBot which is the first step into getting the PRS upgraded: http://gofabmo.org/
