Chain and sprocket

Playing with the gear generator program I tried the sprocket and chain setup, now I just have to figure out something to use it on, sprocket and chain engage very smoothly.

If it was machined out of high density polyethylene or delrin I bet it could make a practical track for a small utility vehicle.

I used to want to build one of the diggers from these guys. I bought an old backhoe and fixed it up, instead... and sold it later... still kinda wish I had built one. Had not seen their articulated wheel loader until I saw your link. I LOVE it.

It's a time thing now...No time for building things like that...It's easier just to buy one already done. With the Deere + Loader/Backhoe, it would be redundant. It is still no doubt, cool...just like Brian's chain/track idea.

Crossed my mind when I saw it that IF you were cash poor and needed a Really widely separated pair of vises....?
Not exactly sure where it would be used(hand planing--working live edge?)...Just a before coffee thought:) Go with Fastenal "connection" bolts and t-nuts to save hands and clothes?

Scott, I did make a vice that big and used the gears to bridge across if I make another the chain would work even smoother . the bolts were quick for concept, brass pins would be nice.

Yep, I was thinking even wider(say 2-3 steps away) for some type of repetitive clamp/cut. But again can't think of a good example:(
Peening Brass Rod with washers would save you a pint of Blue Loc-Tite:)
Thinking dipping in hot wax would make them impervious to humidity, and as they wear it would expose fresh wax and self lubricate:) Works VERY well on buttons, and now I know about 150F oven, going to start playing with larger items(Maybe Fly Boxes?).
Sure you don't want to use it to Raise/Lower your trailer tailgate like a drawbridge? Fit right in with with your Locking Bar:)

That chain is cool. And the Vise too. Maybe the chain could raise and lower some kind of drop down storage platform attached to the ceiling?

Nice link, I have never seen that site. I am going to send that one to my Dad. He will like that. About a year and a half ago, I bought plans to build a smaller scale manual sawmill, was gonna go visit Dad and we were gonna build it. Then I realized I had no wood to saw, and no way to move the heavy logs to load the machine, plus getting it 800 miles once built....LOL
You are right, just because "we can" doesn't always mean "we should" ....but that IS the fun stuff.
