I made this for one of the properties. The top is made out of european steamed beech. It turned out prettier then i thought it would.

Never worked more than small scraps of Beech before Jack, Looks like prettier grain than I thought:)
Can you take a closer pic of Grain?
Thought you were supposed to be taking it easier than that:)
Hope you had some help with that?
Nice job for a rental!

Looks good Jack! Hope to have some domestic beech in the shop soon. Was looking to use it for kitchen utensils but seeing that counter has be thinking about using it to make cutting boards.

Mike

That looks very nice!

I never thought much about beech. I grew up in Germany where it is one of the more abundant species but more used for functional parts (and firewood as well). Quite hard and useful but plain grain patterns and color with those little tickmark streaks. For that matter, there used to be a lot of IKEA stuff in beech before they had parts made in South America or Far East.

So how did you get it to look that pretty?

minwax stain and polyurethane. You know, you put in a little of this and a little of that till you see a color you like...just don't look at the underside of the top to see the experiments.
