This article hits the nail on the head on some of the things that I preach. This really applies to all fields and all can gain some insight on how to get more customers and keep them from this article.
The cabinet makers, think about this article, how about putting a small tag on a door that you know will be opened that has your name, phone number and contact info. Actually this would work on all most all products. This keeps your name in front of your customer and they will at some time recommend you to a friend. We use hang tags, brochures and our business card.
every time we get a order our customer (wholesale or retail) get a brochure and our card .

Great advice, you should have your contact info on everything you produce if it can be done without detracting from product. If it hangs on wall, have it on the back, if it sits on table, put it under the stand. My garage door service company did it when I had a repair a few years ago. When it broke last year, all I had to do was look on the door for the sticker. I couldn't remember their name, had a googled garage repair I probably would have ended up with another company. My HVAC company does the same, putting a sticker on the outside unit with contact info so when repairs needed its easy to find their info.

I know if I was spending that much money on a set of cabinets I would make them remove it or they could pay me for advertising. I do this when I buy a new vehicle or any thing else that people stick their names on. Here where I live a car dealer used to attach his name by drilling 2 small holes in the rear of the vehicles he sold and he was taken to court and had to reimburse people that complained.

Very few would ask that it be removed. Personally if I am happy with a product I do not mind their info on it as long as it does not distract from the product. A nice simply tag on the inside of a door would not distract. It can be made so that it can be removed.
I attach lasered "business cards" in places that are not out in the open. Inside a drawer, inside of a door, etc. Nothing on the outside that would detract from the piece. I've had several referred jobs because of this policy. On custom orders, that have artistic bent, I sign and date the project. Again, in a not in the open location so as to not detract from the piece. Customers seem to really like it when you sign and date your work (not cabinetry).

On a product like that, presenting it as a service/repair reminder, not advertising, and people see it as a benefit to them to have the info readily available.

The only time I do not attach or engrave our info is for wholesale customers. They move our product in bulk, I know they do not want to compete with me. If My logo or info is on the product that the wholesale customers buy some of their customers will try to buy direct and think they can get it cheaper. Even our web site for retail is at or above what our wholesale accounts would charge. However on our retail customers they get our logo or some sort of info each time they order.
We place 4 to five mints in every order (wholesale and retail), along with a brochure and most often a business card. I have had wholesale accounts call as quick as they get the order telling us how they liked the way we sent their product. I have had a few customers ask us to add more of the mints, so all of their employees can have one.
