With November 3rd fast approaching I think it is time to promote the 2nd annual Kitty Hawk Camp.
If you are interested in attending please Email me back as soon as possible so we can get a feel for how many attendees there will be. Last year we had a fantastic representation from ShopBot headquarters, including the man himself, Ted Hall. I am told we will have a good turnout from SB again this year. If you have any questions or concerns this is an excellent opportunity to get the word straight from the horses mouth. If this years camp is anything like last years, it will be a most worthwhile day. So, come on down, the weather should be fine and the company fantastic.

Doug,

Could you give some additional information on the camp, like the proposed times, location, etc. I sent you an e-mail, but perhaps you didn't get it. I am in Morehead City, about a three hour drive from you, and would like to attend, but I need some additional info before committing.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,
Doug and John are out of their shop a lot so I'll handle some of this info for them. Their shop address is:
201 W.Lillian St.
Kitty Hawk, NC 27949
252-256-3390
carcuscab@hotmail.com (mailto:carcuscab@hotmail.com)
Here are driving directions for those who have not been to the Outer Banks before:
" From the North, you will come on the Outer Banks on US 158. Just after you
cross the Wright Memorial Bridge, you will pass through 3 traffic lights and follow signs to Hwy 12 South. When you get on Hwy 12 we are less than 1/2 mile on the right. Building has a sign on it that says Carolina Custom Cabinets (the name of the business we sold last year). From the south end, one enters the beach on US 64. At the intersection of US 158, go north about 14-15 miles and follow the same Hwy 12 signs. At the turn one wants to make coming from the south end there is a Outer Banks Welcome Center on the left. There will probably be several signs to Hwy 12 coming from the south but for simplicity sake one should make the turn when they see the Welcome Center (you can't miss it)."
It's just across the street from the beach, and a great spot (must be hard to concentrate on getting any work done though.....).
The Camp will start with our traditional "coffee/donut" session between 8-9AM, and the actual sessions themselves will begin about 9.We'll provide a lunch, and most Camps run until 4-5 PM
As for the schedule, we'll be covering what most people have asked for much of this year;
Software options
Sign making
Vacuum hold downs
New Shopbot models
Shopbots as a business
And since we'll have a bunch of the Shopbot staff there for this one we should be able to handle just about any other issues people may want to get into. Of course as usual if we get a request to cover something which is feasible (meaning that we have the equipment needed in the host's shop)we'll also add that to the list .
This is going to be the last Camp Shopbot on the East Coast for 2007, and the weather should be great, so if you haven't made plans yet, please contact either John/Doug/myself
( at campshopbot@shopbottools.com (mailto:campshopbot@shopbottools.com) ) and let us know you'll be coming down.

Looks like we will have a good group again this year and we are so looking forward to it. Bill Plaumbos directions are perfect except for the address. The shop address is 5130 N. Virginia Dare Trail. The lillian St address is my home and where we receive our mail. If anyone is confused or gets lost, just call me at 252 256 3391. Looking forward to a great camp as well as a repeat of the after camp social hour.

Yikes! I did that last year too! Sorry.....
We're starting to get more names of people planning to attend, and it would be a big help if anyone else planning to attend would contact Doug, or myself soon.
This is the last Camp of 2007 so if you want to be part of the festivities please make your plans for the Outer Banks soon...

We're closing in on the Kitty Hawk Camp, so again I will ask those of you planning to attend to contact us ASAP.
Because of it's proximity to Shopbot's headquarters
( and the Atlantic ocean...) we're going to have a larger than usual turnout of Shopbot staff at this Camp. One benefit of this is that we'll be able to get into some of the NEW projects in much greater detail. For example Scott Julian will be doing a session on the new 'Partworks' software package including the recent addition of 3D files which can be used in a number of ways.
We'll be able to go over the latest machinery updates as well, including the "Buddy" bench top model and it's "Power stick"options.
Expect some good "Show and Tell"items to be on the table, and the added bonus of having Doug/John's shop about 100 feet from the beach, and it should be a great weekend Camp.
Hope to see you on the Outer Banks !

Hurricane Noel should be past the NC coast by this evening, I am assuming the Kitty Hawk Camp is still scheduled.

Any update?

Doug and John,

Sorry I will not be able to get to the camp tomorrow.

Production has to continue around here this weekend and thus I am stuck in the shop.

Have fun and I'll look forward to being there next year.

The Kitty Hawk Camp was a good one. We had a few hurricane "issues" as Noel blew past the Outer Banks Friday/Saturday, and we got a bunch of wind, and high surf. We even lost electricity Saturday morning but luckily Jim Zaccaro had parked his motor home outside of Doug/John's shop Friday night so he just ran his generator, we strung an extension cord into the shop and Jim and his wife Kitty served up pots of coffee for all of us to
get the day started.
I have a Camp write up posted at: http://campshopbot.blogspot.com/
and we should have pictures on the Flickr page;
http://www.flickr.com/photos/campshopbot Monday morning.
Many Thanks to John/Doug/Jim for making this one work in spite of the elements...!

The new pix are up, and Bill Young also did a (very) short video of John Roughton, Brady Watson, and Jim Zaccaro looking over one of Brady's new "Trex" vacuum pods. That is located at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfvzONuegas
