I have a 17.75" wide hollow core door in a bathroom in one of the rental houses that the tennants dog just pulled the luan from the door in strips and destroyed.
I can't go buy a door anywhere that size anymore. I thought about cutting the bad part off and just putting more luan in it's place but whats on the door is like 1/16th" thick or less and the thinnest luan i can find is .25 so i can't just match it.

I could maybe skin the frame of the door down.25 and then the luan might fit but wondered if anyone had a better solution?

Home Depot sells 18" flush doors for $25...just saw some at the Norfolk when I was buying doors for tables.

Yes. You have to look for "underlayment" at HD. I don't know who thinks that is a suitable underlayment... nor do I know for WHAT it might be suitable... But I have reskinned a door with it. It is a bit splintery at the grain ends. Use tape over the material before cutting. Glue up and Seal ... but a new luan door is going to be much less labor intensive... and they do sell them, also. ( Maybe not in all markets?)

Get a wider door, and rip it to about 17-13/16". Clean out the paper honeycomb along the cut edge, and glue in a new edge of pine or polar. When the glue dries, trim off the last 1/16" for a clean edge.

around here you can by door skins at the big box stores some thing like 36x72 and a little less than 1/8 ply
