View Full Version : Where have all the artists gone?
Greetings,
I've stopped by to see what's happening and was wondering where are the creative posts and artists have gone?
Is this an economy move on their part?

I was wondering what happened to you. 25503
Allex,
Excellent post. Signs like this are always a delight. I like your illustration. They hold the viewers eye.
For me, I'm moving into retirement by cutting back on work. It's been a wonderful thirty years much of which has been documented on this forum. Those days are in the past.

Yeah...Joe's posts some of the best...always concise and to the point...no rambling and no smiley faces, never shy to tar and feather those who need it, myself included. A true master of his craft...all would do well to study his previous posts on this and other forums. As mentioned by many on several forums...hobby guys taking over
After last September's storm we are buried with millwork and some cnc projects. I not posting much but here are a few photos of stuff we have done last few months...

Joe, I know I'm one of those hobbiests ;) but if you didn't see it. I have been working on a train. (http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/showthread.php?19648-Choo-choo) I have been fairly quiet the last 9 months with 3 software contracts two just ended. So maybe I can get back to the artistic side of life:

Just got this picture from a local sign company I do wholesale CNC cutting and digital printing. I cut it on the Bot and did the digital print part. He brought me sheets of HDU primed and topcoat done, paint masked on the face.
I had 3 hrs of cutting while I worked in front office. With Vac hold down table now I have more confidence in parts not shifting. My CNC charge was $392 (Toolpaths and nesting took 30 minutes)
I plotted him 2 drill templates on his supplied paper. $50 (10 minutes)
I printed the Digital part, laminated it, contour cut it $60 (10 minutes)
Materials
- 2" Thick HDU on large letters with Digital printed sparks
- 1" Thick HDU on small letters which are mounted to black .040 Al pan
- Everything attached to steel structure which was fabricated with job
- Existing concrete was there and got fresh paint.
I am not an artist though. I lack design skills, but I can keep my machines running. Wholesale is where I have found to fit me the best. I am hitting the road next week to talk to all Sign companies within a 50 mile radius looking for more wholesale. The good news in this case is I have a lot of knowledge in the Sign Industry for the last 25 years. I started making signs when I was 15. If they currently don't do their own CNC cutting then its a win for both sides.
