Not pretty, just practical. Project is sub-frame for custom upholstered commercial sofa bases. Border frame and legs of solid wood will be attached and stained. Client then fastens to their upholstered seating from beneath through the ply frame.
Challenge: Make several dozen of various sizes, many of which extend past available plywood lengths. Realized I could simply take the short sides and stretch an equal distance in width on both ends to reach target length, in this case, several in the 107-109" range.
This stack of ten was produced from 3 sheets of ACX ply. They were glued and tapped together with a mallet in about 3.5 minutes each. Pocket screws will pull face boards to seat .125" rabbeted edges for uniform edge alignment.
An occasional production run like this is made much more enjoyable and efficient thanks to this methodology that the CNC brings to the woodshop. Try it next time you're puzzled about how to stretch that piece of wood.
