Horse Head Cutting Boards

I cut 40 Horse head cutting boards Last Tuesday (18th) I sanded and oiled them Wednesday. I delivered them Thursday. They wholesale at $20.00 each. Our Neighbor works at the Ky Horse park gift shop. She told Tina by Saturday Afternoon all but Six had been sold by close of day. She also told Tina that Her boss will more than likely order double the order. so Here I am Sunday night gluing up panels so I can cut more Horse Head cutting boards. Matching the cutting boards to the location or park really pays off.

Just got a call this morning they have ordered 60 More cutting boards...

The Horse Head Cutting boards are moving so fast, I have had to out source some of the panels to one of My students. He is gluing up panels to go with the ones I have been gluing up. I am having to cut 80 per day just to keep up with the orders.

I've got a friend who has sold thousands of "state shaped" cutting boards and cheese boards. There are all kinds of great ideas out there.

Awesome. What size are you finished boards? I tried my hand at cutting boards. I found the maple was too expensive for me to buy. For a large cutting board/lumber i was paying 45 each for them. So needless to say i have not cut any more. I know that there are only certain types of lumber that suitable for cutting boards, other than maple i dont know the others. Can anyone chime in on that?

The finished boards are 12 inches by 10 and the larger one is 15 by 12. the smaller one sales the best. Where are you located.. I am paying $1.85 bf for Hard Maple and I can get wormy maple $1.35.. For cutting boards you do not need fas grade no.1 common is the way to go.

in colorado. But my shop is the corner of my garage and i have no space for planers and saws. so i get a furniture maker to make them (planks) for me which adds some cost. mine were made from 8/4 as well

I make all of mine from 4/4 I plane the sides smooth then rip them to my desired height (which on these boards is 1 inch) Then I glue them up. I then run them back through the planer and then tot he cnc.
