Masking on PVC for V carve

Does anyone have experience with masking and V carving HD PVC. So far we've used Gerber Mask and Avery. Both do a fair job but when it gets to the fine details they give way.

The next step would be to try intermediate vinyl. What we're wanting to do is paint or gild the well of the letters.

I have had good luck V carving with intermediate that has been laminated. We have tons of scraps from the printer. We use Orajet 3551RA (air release)
and it sticks fine. It thought you retired? I retired 6 years ago and cut back to about 60 hours a week. The longest I have been away was one month (last year) and I was gettin' jiggy to get back and touch all my tools and stuff. Gene

For those who don't know, most PVC is interior grade and not recommended for outdoor use. It's famous for warping and bending under heat. What you will need is the High Density stock and it only comes in .75" & 1". That's the only way I've found it. My favorite brand is PALIGHT. One way you can tell if you're getting the HD type is the lack of surface texture. If there's any at all you have the wrong stuff.

Many may not know, but the exterior PVC trim boards are made at the same plant as the large 4x8 sheets. This is true for Kommerling anyway. There was a while there when 4x8 sheets in certain thicknesses were unobtanium because they were tooled up to extrude the exterior trim boards. The stuff seems OK in smaller sections, but as Joe points out, it gets all wally in the heat and the larger the panel, the worse it is.

Thanks for info, just googled them, seems they now offer it with wood grain finish:

In your experience with it, can it be free hanging or does it need a backer used to prevent warping / bending?
