I have been having some trouble with the Y stepper motor skipping. If I disconnect it from the rail and run the motor using MY, then it seems REALLY loud to me. It also feels really warm. Could this indicate that the stepper motor is bad?

Peter,
Not sure how pertinent it is to you, but Andy made an excellent vid and at about 5 minutes discusses the potentiometer and the settings to reduce noise and heat;

A fellow Desktopper and I had been discussing how loud/hot his steppers were compared to mine.
I sent him Andrew's vid and he now has quiet/cooler steppers.
My Desktop steppers never get so hot I can't keep my hand on them for a few seconds or longer. Not sure exact temps, but I work with molten beeswax which is 140-150F and it feels similar as for temp.

Oh, found the thread. Look towards bottom for Andrew Pitts and Coogara.
