I have been a voyeur here on the forums for a while so I guess it’s time I come out of the shadows and show off a little.

A little about us, we are the Scenic Arts team at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay 3 different department rolled into one. We do all of the theming, event support and in-park signage for both of the Tampa parks (Busch Gardens and Adventure Island).

We have an entertainment venue here call the Moroccan Palace it housed a show called Katonga for many years, but now it is an Ice show called Iceplorations. During the Christmas season we will swap out that show and do a Christmas on Ice show. After the Christmas show closed this year we closed the theater for some major upgrades, new seats, upgraded sound and lighting and a major HVAC cleaning and replacement. About 2 weeks into the project the director of entertainment went to our director and asked him if we could move this monument sign in a planter behind the palace to the side of the building and add show times to that monument. Well the existing monument is concrete block with a plaster and tile front so moving it is next to impossible so my director came to me and asked if I could recreate it on the bot and let’s make two one for each side of the building. So I went down took some measurements and pictures of the existing monument and went back to the shop and went to work.

Using Corel draw I was able to create a file that had all of the detail of the moldings and scroll work of the columns and I recreated the header. The column moldings are basically the same rectangle rotated and flipped just took a little work to join up all of the vectors. Then into Vcaurve Pro to set up all of the tool paths, all of this took me a little over a week to get all set up.

Then out to the bot each of the 4 column files took about 4-5 hours to cut each and the header was just under 2 hours. Substrate was a 1” thick foamed pvc. Assembly took a day for each sign then they were primed with a gripper primer and painted an antique white. The blue and off white diamonds are a print that we created and printed on our Roland printer and the blue letters for the Moroccan Palace are actually cut vinyl letters. The posts that hold it up are 3 in square aluminum that are 8 ft long but hidden inside the sign itself and then concreted in the ground.

I thought they came out looking pretty good. We have had our bot for almost a year but this is by far the biggest most ornate project so far.

Thanks for finally chiming in and sharing.
Really nice job. (And a nice job to have!)
Did you think about recreating the mosaic in alumacore pieces?
Just a wild something that came to mind looking at it.
