Just did a carve on some Bloodwood and had some chip out. Wasn't sure how to get a filler to match. Sometime back a friend that installs wood floors gave me a product he uses on all kinds of floors as a filler. All you need to do is use sanding dust from the current type of wood you need to repair. It worked great, dries quickly and takes stain. I have had this on the shelf for over 2 years and it is still fine.

Ken,
That looks interesting. In the past, I've used liquid hide glue and wood flour which has been purported and indeed works as the above product describes. However, got tired of the additional messing around and use Timber Mate wood filler. Great stuff, as it also is useful for filling grain for smooth table tops, and has no expiration date. Add water to desired consistency. Scrape remainder back in container and re-mix. Only catch: any tooling that touches it turns blue/black instantly. Very odd, but just don't use any metal scrapers to apply or clean off and you'll be fine. Wide variety of colors, and they claim the use of real wood flour in the formula, so staining and aging of the piece will be in harmony with selected species. Now instead of a dozen baggies of wood flour in my cabinet, it's a dozen varieties of Timber mate!
