I scanned the following egg and dart trim piece using the 3D probe. I am including a picture of the trim as well as the DXF file. It looks really jagged. Is it supposed to. Also this was done with a 1/8" stylus. It is the smallest I have. Should I get a smaller one to get the fine details?

Is there any one for hire that can get me a cleaned file so I can reproduce this trim?
Thanks
Larry

check ebay you can buy 3d objects already made and if you look hard enough you should find a design just like you example.

Or do a search for egg and dart molding and take your pick from many suppliers.
Hardware resources, outwater, and others all carry it.
Even with a sharp model you're going to have a heck of a time getting a clean length from your router on a pattern that small
in anything close to a reasonable time.
Most of the time the manufacturers press in the pattern on a softer wood.

I agree with Dave but sometime we have to match a short piece of existing.
with a two good photos of profile and section plus the height and width measurements and you can create it rather quickly (providing you have a 3d software to build it in)
here's a quick example

Here is the trim part made to the dimensions of my sample. Any tips on how to add the egg and dart portion?

Larry, it all depends on what software your using, but for most, with vectors, create the relief of the egg & dart for one repeat section then copy it for the length of your base profile, add to base relief or merge if using layers
