This is a test cut for a stock car in 1/48th scale (think Lionel). It's 1mm sintra, Beckwith 1/16th in tapered ball nose, two sided tape hold down. The tape hold down I tried a new experiment with and it worked like a champ. I also have a vinyl cutter so I use a lot of their transfer tape which is very wide. I applied it to my spoilboard and the back side of the sintra. I then applied the two sided tape to the back of the now transfer taped sintra. Stuck it down, cut it out, and very easy tape removal. Works for me! Russ

That's a quarter leaning on the end of the rail car.

Here's a commercial kit versus my test cut.

What fun. Looks like you found the right material and bit for this kind of work. I'm guessing but have you moved on to PVC as a standard substrate for your train work? One thing for sure it's tough and won't come apart on small detailed work like this.

Good going.

I just want to know where are the 1/48th scale cows that go in it? I'm surprised with such skinny pieces you didn't have any accidents. Very cool!

Joe, I usually do most of the smaller models in pvc, but I'm still a wood guy for the larger models and most everything else!

The stock cars in Colorado were mainly SHEEP cars (no comments, please)! :D

My next project today is a wood sign for another Oregon train club. It's the best 1/2 inch marine ply available around here. Letters outlined with a roundover point bit and then cut out of a sheet. The letters when painted will be applied to a backer sheet of the same material. Sign is 36x68 inches, will be hung with a french cleat.
