I am building a coffee table using a Walnut slab. I thought a compass rose would look good embedded in it.

This turned out to be more of a challenge than I had thought. I wanted nice sharp points, which I could get with V carve. But to get flats (.190 deep)_ to fill with plastic I had to use a pocket and a 1/8 inch end mill.

After cutting I mixed up a few ounces of casting plastic and filled the depression, then sanded off the excess.

Anyone wants the .crv file just send an e mail to tom@lempicke.com

This is cut into a piece of scrap to make sure I am getting what I want.

Tom,

It looks really good! It does look in the photo that you suffered either a little tear-out or bleed through in a few spots. Am I correct or is it the image?

Yes, like I said this was a test piece and I used a really old cutter and scrap wood. After it was cut I just cut a circle out of the board and that is what you see.
