I just bought a new Desktop Max. I sold my PRS Alpha 4x8 a few months ago, as we moved to Delaware and I have a somewhat smaller shop space.
I want to use this machine for high resolution 3d carving. I was thinking about designing a table/ cabinet for it to sit on and the idea of making it's cutting surface 44" tall came to me as I looked at my bandsaw. The Prs was the height it was built, and using it for 4x8 3/4" ply I wouldn't have wanted it any higher. But this is a smaller machine and the pieces will be a very manageable size and weight.
My back isn't great anymore, so the thought of being able to install bits and set up jobs while standing at band saw height seems appealing. That bending out over the 30 - 32" table is tough. Am I missing something? I already have a small rolling outfield table at 44" that I use when needed with the bandsaw.
The extra height will also allow me to put long pieces on end by allowing part of the table / stand surface to be removable, and the aluminum deck can come off in sections. A lot easier than the squatting on the floor to attach the occasional part to my vertical cut area on the PRS.
Any ideas or opinions are greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to getting my new shop set up and cutting again
thanks
