I am looking for a simple chicken silhouette I can cut in my chicken coop for a vent? I found some online but they are EPS files.
Thanks Mike
Have a happy 4th!!

eps works fine most of the time just import it as a vector file.

I tried downloading this one.

Try this. I did a screen shot of the chicken, saved it as a JPG, imported it into Aspire and then did a trace of it.
Came out pretty well I think, the trace function of Aspire works quite well.
Hey! How do you load a CRV file on to a reply like this?
as an alternative, Inkscape can trace and vectorize any image, it's free
It can save to a ton of file formats also

I tried that but when I went into node edit it would have needed a ton of editing I was hoping to find something that was ready to use. I will clean up the trace if I can't find something more ready to cut.

Did it need cleaning due to low resolution?
In Google set the image size to large
Also maybe Gaussian blur the image a little bit in gimp or a photoshop type app which helps clean up rough edges

If you just need an outline you might be able to use one of the free vectors we have for our 3D models - take a look at these two links:
https://www.vectorart3d.com/store/?Fuseaction=Detail&ID=50404
https://www.vectorart3d.com/store/?Fuseaction=Detail&ID=50739
If you click on Free EPS outline (which should read no problem into VCarve or Aspire) then it will give you an outline vector which is the silhouette of the model. We offer these as a way of seeing the relative size and shape in a layout before you buy a model but if it works for what you need thats an easy answer.
Cheers,
James

What I want to do is just cut out the silhouette so it is empty inside I will cover the inside with screen mesh for a vent. I just need an outline to cut it in some doug fir 1" thick plank. I am hoping this makes sense. I want a silhouette that is not too detailed so I can cut it with a .250" bit and you will still know what it is afterwards. Some of the silhouettes have too much detail for a 1/4" bit.
Thanks Mike

It is a hen house but I could go either way. I tried a couple and some of them don't look that good in preview being cut with a 1/4" bit because of the detail of the outline. I am scaling the image to about 10" the planks I am using are rough cut 1" x 12" and the hen house will have board and batten style siding. I have some big vents for the gable ends but they look too big and I was thinking a silhouette of a chicken for a vent would look cool. I don't want to spread the image out over more than one board width because of the batten strip I don't think it would look right but I am open to suggestions. I have drawn the building in Aspire for the shape of the building to get an idea of what it will look like. This is a monitor style building 10' x 12' with exposed beams out the ends this is going in my back yard so I want a nice looking building. I will post some pictures.
Thanks Mike

Here is the start to the building. The building is being built with free or cheap materials I bought off CL so construction has been dictated by what I get for cheap for example the main structure is framed with 4x6 posts because I got a bunch of them cheap.

What program are you trying to bring the eps into , Aspire , V- Carve Pro ? Are you trying to bring in as a bit map or as vectors ?

I have an older version of Aspire 3.5.
I have 8.5 , I still have 4.5 on my laptop and that will bring in eps files , maybe 3.5 is limited in that respect

I would suggest using an 1/8" end mill vs. the 1/4" if you would like to retain the detail to some extent.
I did a quick model using the 1/8" , this is how it previews...

I was trying to use a bit I already have I do not cut wood very often so my wood bit selection is small. Can I get an 1/8" bit with a 1" CEL?

You could use a tapered 1/8" ball nose and cut from the back. They come in longer lengths and are way stronger than straight ones.
For that matter, you could even use a 1/16" tapered BN. Gary Beckwith is one source.

"Can I get an 1/8" bit with a 1" CEL? "
Mike,
I've used this bit a fair amount over 2 years for thick cutouts where nesting was tight/ or I didn't have enough material to use a .25" due to my fences.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-8-CUTTING-BIT-FOR-CARVEWRIGHT-MACHINES-OR-COMPUCARVE-1810-1250-1000A/152102372397?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D20140602152332%26meid%3D0ed7a4f5b563497f859 edfd7f51b0e67%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26 sd%3D381155134144
Be careful of clamping pressure on the cut, but used on BBPly all the way up to Teak.
2IPS MS is starting point... usually use at 2.2-2.6 IPS MS....Use Conventional cut! (and a spiral ramp)
Thickest material was .98" Jatoba and it was fine.

Here is another one: http://www.the-carbide-end-mill-store.com/m5/170-2125--1-8-square-end-mill-extra-long-htc-170-2125-2-flute-gp-30-uncoated.html
Catalog here: http://www.htcmfg.com/htccatalog2015/#?page=0
HTC is a good source for reasonably priced long, extra long and "extra extra" long bits (the latter only >1/4"). All made in USA...
The low price helps because the slim bit will break easily.

Scott,
Why did you set the tool diameter to .123 instead of .125?

That's what the cutter actually measured Scott.

I use these bits a lot, stay sharp a long time and cheap.

The 6mm one in the same design works really well too.

Scott, I spoke too soon:(
Entered that about 2 yrs ago and never questioned it.
Got curious because all my other Kyocera's are exactly .005" undersized.
Should be .1245"D, and still had a 3D cut out with it, and the cut measures .1252"
Thanks!

Far be it for me to quibble about a few thousands but I buy bits from drillman all the time and they're generally spot on.
Best, Scott
