I need to cover carved foam with a hard smooth coating then paint. What is the current best product? It's an interior topo. map application.
Thanks,
Steve

You don't say what type of foam, or the hardness needed.
since you want a smooth coat then I would probably go with the likes of 6001 sp polyester primer, make sure you use the recommended amount of harder
sprays well, maintains detail (providing you don't overbuild the fine detailed areas) , sandable

I am glade you posted this. I too have just finished tooling a window trim detail that needs to be covered with a harden shell. the difference for me, its outside.
will the 6001 sp work out side and if not, what would you recommend?
The piece in going in the gable end of a large home where there is a window that's 36"od. the trim is 36" id and 54"od with a flourish that reaches 110'' on both sides.

Thanks

Larry the 6001 is a hard coat primer (2 part) which can be then be finished over with the paint of choice (so yes ok for exterior)
