A while back I started having some problems with my a zero plate. I checked all the wires and tested the plate by entering the c2 command and then just touching the alligator clip to the plate and it seemed to work ok. For whatever reason it seemed to be a continuity thru the bit problem. So I have been manually adjusting z for a while now. Today I had some time and played with it a little more and discovered that it wasn't that it was failing to detect the touch to zero plate but that it actually paused when either the bit or my alligator clip touched the plate. However instead of rising back up and coming down again, it pauses and then starts immediately down a second time while still in contact with plate. Yeah then bad noises and errors sb3. I have never modified the zzero.sbp file other than to adjust thickness of plate.

Anyone ever run into this problem?

Try touching the plate to the bit before running the c2 routine. The # 1 input light should come on. If it does not you most likely have a broken wire.

In addition to what David said...It's not a coated bit is it? Is it clean? That would affect continuity. If no input #1 light when plate is touched to bit, DON"T Z-Zero.
