Had one of these trim out the 'High Line' that crosses my land several years ago. Quite the operation to watch. I believe the blades were 24" diameter on it.

Did not see partner except for refueling. Was he spotting for the pilot? Not sure what good a spotter would be anyway. Looks very dangerous!!!

The two guys switch off every so often and the spotter runs around on an ATV relaying information as to where more is needed and also height changes as needed. Depending upon the height of the trees, they may have to make up to 3 passes along each face of the right-of-way. Very dangerous! The one pilot/spotter I talked to said that when they first started this method of trimming they lost a pilot and equipment to design issues, as the saw got hung up and pull the chopper down. Saves a lot of time as opposed to a ground crew with bucket rigs and chainsaws though.
