I have been buying techniks off of ebay and had no problems. but the last 1/2" one was loose the bit would fall out when you inserted it and you had to tighten the nut more then usual. the 1/4" one held the bit fine. well I figured I would get them from shopbot ad see same brand but both the 1/4" and the 1/2" let the bits fall out. this means you have to use the wrench to tighten it enough to get the bit to stay so it is a bit hard with only two hands.

Check if your collet nut may be binding to not allow hand tightening. Blow it out and apply some suitable lubricant like ColletCare. May or may not help...

using a less worn nut ( i have 5) and now it will tighten right. still won't hold the bit on it's own and I will miss that.

Have you mic'd the bit to see if is actually correct size?

no but it is not tight on any of the 1/2" bits where the old one was. it works fine but when you loosen the nut the bit falls then you have to go and find it (G)
