Rhododendron roots for woodworking

This is a curiosity question more than anything. This guy is selling these Rhododendron roots for $1,000.00. As far as i'm concerned unless they were grown in gold dirt a piece of wood ain't worth anything close to that.

I would think it would be worth $1000.00 after it looks more like this.
