Ok, last week, i replace my usb control card, because it went bad. Shop bot is back up and going... but ever 3 minutes, it jerks and stutters (all 3 axis).... Ill close out the SB program, open it... works fine for 3 min.

Ive changed usb cords, computers etc....

It may be worth noting, I have upgraded to the newest software before i replace the usb control card, just as a diagnostic step. Any help much appreciated

Did you update the firmware also? Even though it worked, it would be a good thing to do. UI (utilities install) will get you started. Also, make sure you have nothing running in the background on the PC, no screensavers, no programs checking for updates including Windows. Turn off USB selective suspend in the power plan options.

Do a packet-et test to see if your PC/USB is up to the task. Help/notes on diagnostic or UT should bring up the doc on how to test and what to look for. After running the test move, look at UD to see the results.

Is this a standard or alpha?

yes, updated firmware was first thing i did. Ran the test Per shopbot test. Said it is suppose to be 35 or less.... mine showed 17 standard also

I just had a similar problem when I replaced mt usb card and found out it was a grounding problem. It would jerk at the same time no matter what file I would run. 2 different control boxes.

Nstep007

How did you fix it?

jerry_stanek

I had to run a new ground wire

Nstep007

From the new control box?

Nstep007
07-08-2017, 05:57 PM
Or you replaced the main power cord?

Just to cover the bases, have you checked all the pinions and motor mounts?

Power to the motors? It could be a simple mechanical issue not related to the other stuff.

Nstep007

Have checked everything. Gave machine mouth to mouth. All motors should be fine. Because every 3 minutes, eve r u axis does it. I don't know whatelse to check for

check that updates are turned off and check your usb settings they may be set to suspend. Control panel power options advanced power options.

Either way, still doing the same thing

Is there any correlation of the location of the router/spindle or gantry to the bot’s misbehavior? Or just time? I had a broken wire that worked fine until certain combinations of X,Y & Z caused an intermittent connection… it acted similar to your description.

Do you have another computer you can try to see if the problem goes or stays...

Now when I go to move the machine. I'm getting a "emergency stop button on" error... but the stoproblem button isn't and hasn't been hit

Sounds like you have a bad connection or a pinched / half broken wire. Maybe - turn off power, unplug and reseat all connections, check each wire for damage / half broken wires paying close attention at the connectors.

I'm going to order a new main board tomorrow. I just have a feeling something is wrong with this one. I've been checking connections, all seems ok, but it wouldn't be hard to over look the slightest one

I have had a half broken wire at a connector that is why I suggest a carful look

You could send the board in and they will check it and repair if needed

Yea. I'm just going to order a new one. The thing is, I have a big craft show this weekend. And very little product lol.

I feel since I have updated to the most recent software, that the machine is not coenciding with it?

Did you update the firmware too?

Nstep007
07-10-2017, 08:44 PM
Yes. Several times to.make sure I done it right. Progress bar apperas, and then goes away when it is complete

Nstep007

I guess I should note, the Z axis seems to be doing just fine. But let's say if I'm moving the X axis, and it starts to jerk, the Y axis will then jerk....so once one axis starts to jerk.... theY both jerk.

Should I be looking at any Limits, or ramp values Etc? Or should I go back to the old software?

i haven't read through the entire thread, so forgive me if these questions have already been covered.
Anyway... do you have another computer available that you could try?

Interesting. I wonder if your firmware updates were silently failing.

Anyway, good news... both for your product line and your wallet.

You know, I just never felt spectacular about the new software. Felt as if my pc, or the actual shop bot wouldn't work with it. But all is well for now... now it's time to get busy and get ready for this weekends show
