Onsrud Super O upcut

I remember having a 1/4" Onsrud Super O single flute upcut bit that had a 1 7/8" cut length. I can't seem to find that bit anymore. Does anyone know if they still make it?

the upcut super o flute is the 65-000 series, but the max cut length in 1/4" is 1.5" (65-027)

Do they make a 3/8" with a deeper cut capability?

not in the 65-000 series, 3/8 has a 1-1/8" LOC
what material are you cutting?

I'm going to be cutting 2" thick alder and cherry.

you don't need a full cut length. just make sure your passes are no more then the cutting lengths.

The issue I'm running into is finding a 1/4" bit long enough, overall, to cut thru 2" of material. I think I will need a bit 3.5" - 4" in length.

our going to get flex with this bit 0-flutes tend to be worse about this. so plan on some cleanup passes. I would not push it too much to keep the bit from breaking. 1/4" pass 3ips is ok. maybe two or three passes on the finish to keep the flex down.

Are you indicating that the bit is going to flex spinning in mid air not cutting?

I tend to climb cut in 1/4" increments and leave a 1/32" skin. I then do a single conventional cut 1/32" thru the material. This has worked well for me in the past cutting things like 2" hickory and bubinga for chair parts. The marks left on the edge from the stair stepping down are pretty much eliminated on the conventional cut. The flex seems to be minimal using this method.

no when it is cutting. I used to see that when I was making my wooden planes. when I needed super accuracy.finally had go to a 3/8" bit to get a deep accurate cut. plus machine flex too of course.
