Quite funny, discovered this video by accident.
When I played with an oil furnace ignition transformer (I was like 12 years old) and burned such cool patterns into the shop work bench my dad smacked me. Never occurred to me to use this for decorative purpose but maybe not a bad idea.
Obviously it would burn similar pattern into your skin if you are not careful. But I am an electrical engineer and that would never happen to me...:p

I am going to try that, I have a furnace transformer I used to use it to start my two cycle moped in the winter when I was a kid. It would look great on some of my dino skulls

Just a warning. The woodturners assoc., at their anual conference which was just held, would not accept work like this in an attempt to discourage it. Apparently two people have been killed doing this. That's all I know.

People have been electrocuted doing this process. I read that a woodworking trade organization (I don't remember offhand which one) removed this from their approved processes of woodworking.

First time I ever saw it was when a guy in Oz posted this;

Think I may skip it after the warnings though, as electricity and I aren't the best of friends:)
Thanks for posting G. !

That is probably a prudent approach since many people who try this would not know what they are doing. I heard of people even using a small pole pig to up the voltage from the 120V line and that would be a recipe for instant death.
But I think a furnace ignition transformer should be O.K. with some precautions. In the earlier experiments I mentioned when I was a kid I did get zapped and the hole in the skin was not pleasant but nothing really bad.
Anyway, I was not trying to promote this method but share my internal snicker that some people are using a job process that got me a few smacks from my dad.

If it is an oil furnace transformer it puts out 10,000 volts about the same as a neon sign transformer

Any tool can be dangerous. After looking around the inter webs, I must say that this is a pretty cool process. I won't do it myself, but I may recommend it to a friend.

with that kind of voltage it doesn't just bite it kills as you can't let go

"won't do it myself, but I may recommend it to a friend."
Correction: Soon to be former friend, RIP?? Sorry, had to do that!

My thought was "with friends like that who needs enemies"

For those interested there is an episode of Handcrafted America to feature this technique tonight at 7:30 Central on the INSP channel 364 Direct TV.
I ran across this process a few months ago and thought, WOW what awesome art. After more research I found that it was too dangerous for me to try and that the AAW
had ban the process from being demonstrated at any of their meetings. I think the AAW went even further and won't let any one show a piece in a show sponsered by them..
