Hey all, I've got a job coming up where I have to drill into the endgrain of a LOT of rectangular pieces that I'm cutting out on the ShopBot.
I've got a PRS 48x96 and I've got my table setup so I can travel several inches past the end (X 103 I believe)
I need to mount material vertically under the spindle in a repeatable way so that I can do all of these drillings accurately (and quickly)
I'm planning on building something out of 8020 or similar extrusion. I know others have done this sort of thing and I'd be curious to see your setups!

Vacuum also works sideways...Use that to your advantage.

I have a video of my pneumatic clamp setup I put a 4 inch extruded aluminum square tube across the legs and mounted the clamps all of it is movable for different material I use it primarily for mortising and tenoning furniture parts. I dovetail drawers with an additional set of clamps coming up through the table.

Since those videos its a bit more refined but you get the idea, it has made the machine very productive for my business.

Brain, Thanks for sharing that. Really good use of air hold down systems. Once I slow down a little with commission work (looking at semi-retiring soon), I'm going to get an air system like that to do stuff like dovetails and other vertical CNC work.

Another versatile tool is my pneumatic ball vise it has a foot pedal on the floor so I can keep my hands on the work.
Comes in really handy for my signs for finish work.

Brian, you are a cross between McGyver and Rube Goldberg. Ingenuity!

Thanks, in the Army that was my nickname at the motorpool.

Gary,
I’ve seen this video somewhere, cool every single time. Saw something I think... Did you change the sb or vfd root files somehow to have the spindle not stop itself after a part file? It looked as if the spindle was free spinning instead of coming to a halt on its own.

Justin...
The VFD was during a programmed ramp stop, as it came from the factory. I have since learned (maybe them too) how to do it better
