Long time since I've posted here...

I just bought me a fancy "Tool and Die Grinder" from Grizzly to sharpen my dull and chipped end mills. Got a drawer full of them.

I'd love to get some tools to practice with so for anyone who sends me two, I'll sharpen them to the best of my ability and send you back the best one. Send me twenty, I'll send back ten. You pay postage to me, I'll pay it to send them back. I am betting a 50% success rate at the start is not bad.

Since they are already worthless to you, this could be a deal. The machine (similar to a Deckel SO) is quite expensive so I'm betting they are rare in the community.

The tools should not be broken from heat. They are toasted and good for nothing. If you've run into a nail, snapped them but they still have flutes or are just plain dull, they can be repaired.

Please send me a PM if interested.

I've been using my ShopBot since 2013 and have worked it lightly over the years for hobby and entertainment. I make all sorts of fun things from wood, plastic, aluminum and foam. Great piece of equipment. I can't imagine life without a CNC.

And John gets another new toy!!!! Pretty soon, a new building for them:rolleyes:
Hey-How's the latest aim-light version?
(For those who don't know it John has a sideline of a great tool for guys who get up in the night.)

I love toys! Well, to the IRS, these are serious business tools required and necessary for the operation of the business, not toys. Aim-Light is still chugging along. We're working on a manufacturing plan that's kind of taking forever.

As for the shop, it's getting a bit crowded. Still have room for more though. I put just about everything on wheels. I would be more active in this forum except I just haven't had any problems (knock on wood!). I'm still on the original V3 of the control program and don't believe I'll mess with it until something major fails. I keep all the other stuff like Rhino and Aspire up to date.

John,
Just curious if there are limitations on the machine for doing say Ballnose/point cutting and bearing guided roundovers/ and 1.25" mortising bits?

That looks like a nice machine, I have been using my metal lathe with a diamond wheel for sharpening carbide bits they cut like new again some are as old as my bot, 2003 prt.

Scott - The machine is incredibly precise so I expect that pretty much any shape can machined. From my research, I could turn a square bit into a V or ball nose. It does take skill to operate and the best way to get that skill is by using the machine.

If you want to send me some dull, chipped or broken bits, I'd be more than happy to give it a try. The only cost to you is postage!

Thanks!

I was looking through my old bits after reading this, I don't really have much in the junk pile but an obliterated Onsrud endmill (was brand new til Scott made me put a screw where a screw wasn't supposed to be) :p and a couple 1/8 V bits with the tips broken off (very minor tip breakage), maybe one 1/8 end mill that I'm still using but getting ready to retire. Is it only end mills you can do?

Drills for sure. Sizes on that will be limited to 1/8 1/4 3/16 1/2 as that's the collets I have. I guess I won't know what else until I try. I'm certainly open to experimenting. Send me whatever you want that you consider useless now and I'll try and repair it.

Hi John, are you still looking for dull endmills to sharpen? I have a pile of them.

Jim - Yes! I have sharpened a bunch of my own successfully and drills too. The machine works pretty well but it is a skill, like anything else. Please send me what you have and I'll do my best to turn them back into useful tools.

OK, I'll send them out tomorrow. Can you do carbide vbits too?

I haven't tried a V-bit yet. If you're willing to send some, I will try and sharpen them. The problem will be that the angle may change and could be uncalibrated.
