After all of of the ridiculous stuff I've made this past year, I finally made an outdoor sign:

31296

31297

This one was fun. The wheel actually spins if you feel like getting on a ladder and moving it!

So I'm a sign maker now too! :)

Awesome sign, Eric! Plywood or "real" wood?

I used that "real" wood stuff. The wheel is PVC. The hardware (including the axle) is all stainless.

Nice Job! I was expecting a wheel that a helmsman might use on the bridge of a ship. Is this more a carriage house theme?

It's a bar around the corner from a performing arts place. In the building at one point there was some sort of factory and they had a lot of those wheels laying around. They really l iked the design of the old wheels so I helped them copy it for that sign. We almost mounted one of the actual wheels in the sign, and while it would have worked, using the light PVC material I think was a lot safer choice, and it also let me dial in the size to exactly what I needed.

Looks really nice. Nice job with the stacked text over the gear shapes.

Thanks. As usual it took a little fiddling with Aspire to get it to do what I wanted lots of boolean operations.

Here's a video of it working:

Eric,

One of the standards used in the sign trade for projecting sign are guy wires keeping the sign from swinging out of control.

I very happy to see you are enjoying the sign trade. You're right it's a fun profession.

Carved stuff like this is fun, and quite easy to do.

Holy Molley, I've been preaching that for years. The skies have finally opened up!
