I've got a Shopbot Buddy with the 2.2 HP HSD spindle. I have an intermittent issue where the Shopbot 3 control software hangs when I turn the key to turn the spindle off during a tool change. Seems to happen after the tool change when I turn the spindle back on.

If I kill the process for Shopbot 3, it still won't restart unless I unplug the USB hub cable and plug it in again. It happened on an old laptop (which had other issues). I bought a brand new fairly high end laptop and reinstalled everything - still does it. I'm using the USB hub (as recommended). Moving the Shopbot USB connector to another port on the hub helped for awhile - now it does it again. I monitor the USB speed regularly in the diagnostics screen and speeds seem to always be acceptable.

Anybody else run into this ?? Thanks !! --Pat

Well, you can rule out your computer. I suggest changing the USB cables. You'd be surprised at how many times just changing the cable solved the most otherwise unsolvable problem. It's simple, cost nothing if you have another lying around and may be effective. If it's not the cable, it's something up the line that's going to involve more expensive parts. Good luck!

If you are using SB3.8.50 it does seem to have some problems. When I jog (12ips) on my PRSAlpha, sometimes it will just stop and freeze the UI on the computer. I have to turn off the computer and restart it to get it working again. I used to run SB3.6.44 and never had this kind of a problem.

I recently had the "opportunity" to upgrade but remain on 3.6.38. It works for me and I don't want any adventure.

Had no choice. Added an ATC to my machine and had to move to 3.8. It seems much more temperamental then 3.6. But at least SBLink still works (kinda) and my business can keep going making cabinets.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody. The USB cable swap is cheap insurance. And yes I checked, I'm using 3.8.50 I think I upgraded when I got V Carve Pro 9.0 Thinking back, I didn't have this problem the first few years on an older version.
