If I grasp the end of one of the screws near the bearing, I can wiggle it. I thought it should not have any movement other than rotation.
Is this a sign that I need to replace my bearings?
If not, what would indicate that bearing replacement is called for?
Thanks for your advice

I should clarify. I'm not talking about the bolts that hold the bearing in place. I'm referring to the threaded rod that moves the spindle side to side.

Bud,
IF you're talking about the fitting on the left side of the X screw on a standard Desktop....
NOT to worry...it's designed to have a little play(I forget the reason Brady told me once:(
It's the linear rails, and those 4 bearing blocks on the Z carriage that give the rigidity and accuracy, NOT the left side screw anchor fitting.
Breathe a sigh of relief now :)
(I know I did years ago:)

Thanks Scott, that makes me feel much better.
As always, I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge.

No problem Bud...I had the same question a long time ago:)
Do seem to remember Brady mentioning putting Small amount of oil inside the about every 40 hour(?) or so.
So I just use my wheelchair pin point oil there, at the same time I put 3-1 on the rails and drive back and forth to keep the felt wipers on the bearing blocks moist.
