How come sometimes when I stop a cut the Z will pull up to a safe depth but other times it will stay down at the cutting depth? I am running SB 3.5.9

To Add to this... using the [S] key, sometimes the spindle stops running and sometimes it doesnt. I havnt had the lift problem as Jerry desribes. Running 3.6.2

I've seen the behavior and never figured out what the difference is, I have upgraded to 3.6.3 but have not had a chance to run it yet.
For fun... try having an error popup, the software closing and then refusing to connect to the bot when it is run again. This is while the machine is sitting with the spindle running full speed. That was somewhere back in 3.5.<10. Total shutdown and reboot fixed it, has never happened again.

Mine does the same thing and it is very irritating when I am running a drilling tool path in UHMW. Occasionally the plastic swarf will build up on the drill bit and I have to stop and clear it by hand air won't clear it. When it does not pull up to above the material it gets hot and melts the plastic and screws up the bit. I have found if I stop it between holes as it is traveling to the next hole it won't do it. Sometimes it will rise to a safe distance but most times it just stops in the hole and causes the problem so I have learned the hard way. I think I am running 3.6.1

I run 3.4.27 and when I stop a file using the space bar it will not pull the router up, but when I use the S key it works everytime. Something to try.
