Connecting to bot

I have a new 96 prtalpha bot. My problem is if the computer is turned off and started again it does not connect unless I unplug the usb cable and reinsert it. I have tried new usb serial adapters. Also have called support numerous times and no help.I am running a dell with xp pro. Any suggestions? Thanks

I would try hooking up another USB device and make sure it is operational (like a webcam, scanner etc). Then power down the PC and see if the system still recognizes it. This would tell you if it is the PC or the USB adapter.
