View Full Version : 3.5.2 loose position
Hey all!
I upgraded to 3.5 from the latest beta then 3.5.1 and 3.5.2 but so far only toying around, nothing really serious.
Today, with 3.5.2, I'm loosing position whenever a file is run. The tool move the correct distance with simple move and jog commands but if I ran a this file
3818 (15.8 k)
it is not returning to the correct home position. It look good in preview mode but it fail in move mode. It's like TBC are being reset at some point.
It's probably something obvious I'm missing but my brain need help. I have tried to sort it out without success... back with 3.4.26...
Thanks in advance.
Same file run flawlessly in 3.4.26

I have zero'd my alpha, ran a file and then jogged home and noticed that my xy 0,0 has now changed. So far I've not noticed any lost position during a file run. I've not done any troubleshooting yet, I've been in a hurry so I've been rezeroing using the prox switches between runs. This behavior began with the last beta and persisted with the 3.5.2 release.
Thought I'd mention it since it seems it might be related.
Robert
Well, yes, if you zero with the prox. between each run, you wont see what I see.
BTW, I did reset the firmware at each SB3 install.
I did notice some odd behavior in K mode and I think they are related to my TBC Z axis specifications... more later...

Is this an issue with other people? Cause if it is, I may be in serious trouble. Each sheet of doors that I do has up to 5 different tools used so that means I have to re-zero after each bit!
I have found that re-zeroing is usually dead-on accurate, but I'd rather run an entire sheet from one zero.
Is there cause for concern?
No too many has report or observed the above... so...
3.5.3 has pop out one or two days ago regarding an issue (read bug) with 3D moves but it doesn't ell very much about the bug specifications; I can't say if it's related to "my" problem but I should have a chance to test 3.5.3 this afternoon.
More later...
Hmmm... from several Run time errors followed by crash AND lost of position to K mode Z axis behavior oddity, I'm back with 3.4.26 for a moment... need something """reliable""" to produce parts.

I rolled back to the last good beta I had been using. I might load 3.5.3 myself and see what happens, at least I can test for the specific problem I was seeing and advise.

I had the same issue yesterday with beta v3.5.0b22 on a PRS.
Blew a whole day and almost a 18" x 72" sign blank!

After a long arched v-carve file, it didn't JH to the true 0,0. After switching to a 1/4" bit for the flat bottom pass, I noticed it was off slightly. After making repairs and rerunning the damaged area I needed to Move Nudge the Z a bit. I stopped/quit the file, nudged the Z, restarted the file and immediately plunged about 0.75" off in the Y from where it should have been!

Made repairs again, shut 'er down, closed the doors, and walked away before I did something I would regret.

Man I know that feeling...

Hmmmm....... I was thinking of moving up into this century with the windows operating software, but I think I will just keep running my old PRT96 with the DOS based software I am used too. Seems like too many problems with going to the new and improved, so I will stay with the old and reliable for a while yet.
Wes, Check your e-mail.

I just briefly tested the situation that I had yesterday while using 3.5.0b22 with 3.5.3 installed, and it appears to be fixed.
We'll see tomorrow!

James,
The problems mentioned here are with the Shopbot beta software. There is no problem running the version 3.4.26 windows version.

Frank, I almost always follow the old rule that if it aint broke don't fix it. I do run a version of the windows based software on my design computer to preview the files before they go to the machine.

I generally find myself following the rule, if it ain't broke I ain't trying hard enough. The reason I'm running the newer version is that it really does cut curves smoother. While it doesn't matter for a good bit of my work I've been doing a few custom jobs and the smoother cuts are keeping me off the spindle sander.
I've also discovered it turns curves smoother when I'm cutting bat house grooves. Less shaking of the gantry. I do a lot of that and smoother is better.

I ran 3.5.3 all day today with no troubles. I was doing 2D cutting only. Fast 12 ips grooving, 5 ips through cutting 1/2" ply and some detailed bat shapes cut consisting of mostly curves. The bot politely returned to the correct 0,0,1 point every time and never drifted while cutting.
I'll be doing some 3D work in a few days. I'll report any problems.
Robert
I'll be watching... the thread. Thanks!

No troubles here either. Finished up (fixed) my previous problems and ran numerous other things with no troubles.
