Hi
Bot was quitting-sometimes hitting limit in middle of table. Ignore limit and away we go. Then started getting runtime 8021- Internal error retreiving device control box for port.
Now will lose step in x direction, sometimes stopping with lost communication. Strangest part is that when it stops I often hear a grind or rattle noise in the one X motor when it is parked. It seems I cam make the motor noise and jerking worse by wiggling the 40 Volt power box.
Any ideas?? prt 4 g I have checked connectors and they seem fine.

My power supply is 48 volts. Did you wiggle outside the box or open the box and look at the power supply itself?
If things change when you wiggle, you must be close to the issue.

would it be a help to be up to 48 V?
I have 36-41 volts when it is sitting.
I never opened the box yet.

sorry. I have been in the control box- but have not opened up the power supply.

The power supply has a small white adjusting screw close to where the wires connect. You can take a volt meter and monitor the output while turning the screw. Mine has a meanwell 48 volt supply and is adjusted to that.
I really don't think that will fix your machine but it won't hurt to adjust it up some.

That is what my power supply is too. I turned it up to 48 or so. Quite a bit of fluctuation. Dropped x motors and ran them for a while in both directions. x1 would often vibrate when parked. Switched wiring and problem moved. Finally noticed top gecko driver was lifted slightly??? Don't know how or why. Reseated and vibration stopped. Also had been losing communication from computer and noticed whenever I swiveled the base the laptop sits on the USB would disconnect and reconnect. I cut a few tie straps and allowed the cable to hang more freely. I was able to cut for about 2.5 hours problem free to finish my corbels. Thanks for the help Kenneth and Frank
Lorin,
Please post photos of the corbels. I would love to see them , as i am sure alot of others would like it too. Do you have a indexer?

So much for that. It worked for a couple hours. I can't even surface my table without it quitting. I am getting random hit limit message. Then when restarting it will run the numbers for a while before moving. This was usually in Y direction. Tried with 3.6.5 and 3.5.20. No change. I have tried at speeds from 5 to 10 IPM with no change. At the end I had it stop in the X axis and when I went to manually move it the numbers just scrolled. I powered down and retried. Then my X1 motor wanted to go backwards and my x2 forwards. Any ideas? I have wasted to much time on this thing and have to try meet some deadlines on other projects.

Lorin...
Many of these problems have been caused by rolling back to a previous version of software. This results in conflicting INI and registry entries. SB Techs have a method to uninstall SB3 and clean out these entries. Give 'em a call.
I have been running the new betas (5 or 6 versions beyond 3.6.10)and testing error codes etc. I am of the opinion that you all will be very happy with how it works once released. I really think that cleaning out the old info was key, as I had around 30 versions on my machine, and in no particular order.
Even tho I have been a proponent of this in the past, I would not roll back to a previous version unless I was sure that all files left behind are removed.

I'm not sure about that one Gary. The times I rolled back to 3.5.20 I never had an issue.
I think Lorin may have more of bot problem instead of software this time.
Keep us posted Lorin.

When I tried 3.6.5 to run my shopbots it was on a computer that had no other version loaded before. Both shopbots stuttered and missed steps. If I tried to do a m2 move it would go crazy missing steps and making a racket.

Seems one X motor is going down hill. When I swap motors problem follows. Now it is to the point that only one will turn. The other tries but just gets hot. I am going to try swap out z axis motor with the one from my indexer, It is .25 in per step rather than .5. Am going to try doubling my unit value and see how it goes.

Kenneth...
Your are right about Lorin's Problem. It is starting to sound more like hardware than software.
Never had an issue????? arent you the one that the keystrokes dont take? I cant say for sure that multi versions IS the problem, can you say for sure that it isnt?

To answer your question. Yes
I did a clean sweep and have sb 3.6.10 freshly installed. Ryan helped me clear the register also.
I even installed 3.6.10 on a new pc and the same issue is here.
I am hoping for that beta version to come my way soon.
Keystrokes still don't take about 30% of the time. I'm getting a little more used to the frustration, but Ryan is working on getting me a usb card to try.

The "never had an issue" was when I went back to the 3.5.20 version. The old software always ran fine on my machine.
As you know I am gearing up for the link, otherwise I would just be happy with the old version.

I hope all is well now. Got my motors switched around, changed unit values and cut for a couple hours trouble free.
Thanks again for the advice.
