Proximity Sensor Wiring Logic

I moved my Shopbot this weekend and the only problem that I had was a broken proximity sensor. I found a local company (link is below) that has them for $16 each and the mounting brackets for about $2. The question is do I need the NPN or the PNP wiring logic? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My only real knowledge is on my PRSa, but reading different lit on the SB website tells me this:

The PRSa uses a NC NPN config.
The PRT would use a NO NPN config.

There may be a different config on older generation boards.

Using the newer software versions may allow one to switch all to NC limit mode. This is a much better system as the sensors can be "tested" continously. With a NO setup, a bad wire or switch wouldn't show up til the gantry was on the ground.

Thanks for the info. Sorry, I should have said that I have a PRTAlpha. After reading your reply and looking closely at the broken sensor I was able to get the make and part number off of it (Sunx GXL-8H) and search the internet. I found this link to a PDF of the specs. http://www.clrwtr.com/PDF/SUNX/SUNX-GXL-Proximity-Sensors.pdf It is a N.O. NPN. Time to order one.
