I used my Shopbot yesterday everything was fine, today it would not respond to the reset button when starting, I tried the usual like wiggle the reset terminal block, I even fitted a new one.......Nothing

I have emailed support but as usual it's the weekend and the job is urgent.....Any Ideas ?

When I troubleshoot, I usually ask people what was the last thing they were doing?
What was the last repair?
What broke last?
What new parts have been installed.
What unusual things happened during the day?

I guess the gist of proper troubleshooting is forgetting and overlooking the common, the obvious, the cheapest and quickest working your way up to complicated and expensive.

Yesterday, for example, in extreme cold, somebody dropped something on a power cord damaging it in more than once place. Those on the job site "just knew" the problem was at the power box with recurring GFI's freezing.

0 degress, cold and frustrated, the guys were changing out perfectly good GFI's instead of checking the only power cord we had that would carry the load.

Go back into your shop and pretend you are a fresh set of eyes....Look at the problem independent of what you already know.

I had this once, there was a blown fuse in the control box. Might not be your problem but easy to rule out if not.

Chuck,

I have been over that view, still nothing.

David,

I found three fuses all OK.

Do your nostrils tell you anything?

Paul, do you have an Alpha or a Standard? If it's an Alpha, could one of the contractors be stuck. Never had the problem myself, but I know that guys have gave them a little tap to get them to kick in.

Chuck,

No Smoke genie let loose yet.

Scott,

I have an Alpha, the reset does not activate the contactor even after a prod and a tap.

paul,
try this:
Turn off computer
Turn off control box
go to your circuit breaker box and turn off the circuit that is connected to your bot. Wait a minute, restart all.

The key is to disconnect any electricity to the control box so that anything in its "temporary memory" that might be causing the hangup will be eliminated.

This has only happened to me a couple times but that solved the problem.

Paul , if you have an E-stop button you might want to check it to see if maybe you bumped it. I had the same problem a while back and the button was full of saw dust and just stopped making contact inside. Took it apart and cleaned and blew it out works fine now.

I have no advice except when I have urgent issues on the weekend, I phone tech support and leave my phone number.

Isn't it amazing how the simplest thing can cause so much headache.

Well, the panic button lived up to it's name.
