Free SurfCam 2D

At the encouragement of a friend I sent for the free offering of SurfCam 2D. I haven't played with it much but I am now told I need a "post" for the shopbot? Is anyone using this and is there a post available? Is SurfCam worth taking the time to learn? I am currently using vector/turbocad/shopbot combo.
