My boss has me researching a 2nd CNC for our shop and the ShopBot looks good, especially now that I see G-code support has been added. We've been running a PracticalCNC machine with BobCAD v21 & WinCNC for nearly a year.

My question is how well is g-code supported? Would I be able to run my existing g-code programs on the shopbot out of the box?

G-code as a universal language is somewhat of a fallacy. The G-code programs for our Fanuc-based Northwood will not run on our proprietary Omag Mill4x machines, nor vice-versa. Any G-code program that would run on both machines without error probably wouldn't accomplish very much useful work at all.

IOW - I wouldn't bet the farm that they'd run without some modifications.

Mike,

There's a list of the G-Code commands that the ShopBot software supports in the "Control Software" section of the ShopBot wiki.

You could also download the Control software and try running them in Preview mode and see if you get any errors...
