Greetings,

2 September, 2003 - Loveland, CO - Designs Computed, LLC announces the release of VS3D, Virtual Sculpting CAD/CAM software for designing and engraving complex 3-dimensional relief surfaces. Applications include 2D and 3D engraving, photo engraving, laser etching/engraving, hubs, dies, molds, and general 3-axis CNC machining. VS3D's unique approach allows rapid visual manipulation of detailed relief surfaces, as well as traditional CAD capabilities. VS3D offers features not found in other CAD/CAM applications costing three times as much. Visit the VS3D web site at:
www.DesignsComputed.com/vs3d (http://www.DesignsComputed.com/vs3d)

A new example showing actual machined output from VS3D can be viewed at:

I downloaded Vs3d from
www.DesignsComputed.com/vs3d
All I can say is wow!. When I first started the guided tour I was intimidated, but by page 3 I was saying Wow to every set of commands. And when I made it to the tool path section I could hardly believe my eye's that Thay had included support for Shopbot. And the fact that they dont think that ther program is worth more money the the shopbot it self. The way thay have setup there evaluation you can have the program on your computer today and be lerning to us it . then tomarow when you are geting good at using it ( yes I found it that eazy) you can get a evaluation key and be in your shop cuting.
And for you guy's thinking of geting a ShopBot you can download there program and get a good idea of some of projects you are going to be able to make when you get your ShopBot. Just dont get scared folow the Guided tour.
You wont beleave the Import\image brightness as height ( tif .jpg etc.) it is super even before you start to add your owne artistic tuches.
I have been looking and evaluating programs for two years and I finly found the one I want to own.

Is anybody have feedback about VS3D? Is anyone own a license since some time a have observations that they would like to share? I'm looking for "what I like about it" and "what I don't like about it" kind of impressions...

Paco,

I did a test cut for Dan a few months ago. You can see the results here on his web site http://www.designscomputed.com/vs3d/examples/md.html

I have not had time yet to fully try his software I made the cut from his file.

Thanks Frank! I noticed your test part on the Web site. Looks good... and detailed... but I get aggressive moves (tool is jerky) when I run a horizontal or vertical traverse at about 2"/sec. or more... what's strange is that other toolpath from other CAM software are very smooth even at 6"/sec.!!! Today, I plan to run a spiral toolpath to see...

The one on line was cut on my old Prt96 (real old I bought it August 2003) I have since cut another using the new Alpha. I tried moving the speed all the way up to 8 in/sec it was very smooth but it didn't lower the cut time by much. I think the reason is there are no moves more then 2 or 3 inches before a Z pull up so it never reaches any real speed. Both took around 4 hours to cut.

Did you use traverse or spiral toolpath?

Has anyone been using meshcam?

Paco,
The tool path was made by Danial Carr and it was straight line.

Question: Can Mescam or VS3d be used like Artcam Pro on the indexer to create similar indexer turnings?

Jack

Yes, VS3d can and I'm not familiar with Mescam but any program that makes a cut path will work with an indexer. Just think of a label on any canned goods. The label is just a picture, like the cut path created with any program designed to make a cut file. A cut file is a flat picture. The can label is made flat, then it is wrapped around the can until the two side edges mneet. The same happens when you make a cut file. You make it flat but the indexer like the can gets the file wraped around it.
