View Full Version : Downgrade to PW2 or PW3 bug fix?

Is there anyway to revert files to PW2? PW3 is full of bugs and problems. Otherwise, will bug fixes be released soon?
To list a few bugs:
Setting start nodes for cutting paths is not honored.
Center in page fails to work randomly for some unknown reason on grouped vectors. I have to delete the vector recreate and try again.
I have vectors grouped and can not move them with the mouse. I can select the group and move them with the arrow keys, but not with the mouse. Again, the bug is not consistent.
Repeated creation and deletion of the vectors and ungrouping/regrouping finally got me somewhere. But then center in page did not center the vectors properly.
I once selected a grouped set of vectors and moved them with the arrow keys, when I did the dotted outline that wraps them remained anchored and grew instead of staying around the group... as if the vectors were growing but not showing.
There are no hidden vectors on the page.
Frustrating.

I double clicked a tool path to edit it and got...
4465
If I say yes or no the window closes and I am unable to edit the toolpath. Nothing appears to change in the program. If I click on the edit toolpath icon, nothing happens.
I'm sort of dead in the water right now and of course I need to get this project cut... ideas?

Right now plastering "Powered by ArtCam" on the screen as this program starts is not earning them any points.
I closed without saving, reopened and the toolpaths still generated the error when trying to edit. So I saved the file as it was, closed, reopened and all the toolpaths are GONE.
I'm recreating them now...

Robert,
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software?
Can you install PW3 on another computer in order to get back running?

To start the story... When I installed Corel X3 PW2 quit working. Corel Draw finally did figure out that a shared file that Corel installed needed to be an older version for PW2 but before they did I went to PW3 and it seemed to work save a few bugs. Before, during and after the corel file replacement PW3 has had quirks and been buggy and now I can't revert my .art files to PW2 if I wanted too.
I've managed to survive the day and recreated my toolpaths using PW3. I'll certainly try to reinstall the program... but what I'd really like is to be rid of it and go back to PW2. There are not enough enhancements (hardly any) to make PW3 worth the effort.
So, is they any way to revert PW3 files to PW2 files?

How many files do you have to convert?

Unfortuanately probably around 30 files or so have been touched with PW3, I'll have to go through them with PW2 and see which ones won't open to be sure.
I did reinstall PW3, don't know if it helped or not. The not being able to pick a start point is annoying but the buggy behavior has been the worst problem. I don't see how anyone can put up with it, I know I can't be that special :-) ... perhaps the buggyness is only on previous PW2 files??? which these were.

Robert,
I don't have PW2 or PW3 but can you open both PW2 and PW3 and try using the copy/paste between the programs?
Maybe by copying the geometery from PW3 and pasteing it into PW2 you can convert your "new" files to the older system.
Just a thought,

I get Invalid data/file version error when I try to paste from 3 to 2.

You can't paste vectors from v3 in to v2...or v2 into v1 etc.
Robert, you have mail.

Brady, you have a reply! :-)
BTW... I discovered by accident that you can cut and paste vectors from PW into Corel Draw X3. There were a few distortions so the work has to be reviewed and adjusted but it gives me a doorway to get some files converted to dxf or eps.

I don't use PW, but after receiving it with a new machine, I thought I'd take a look at it. I can't even reopen a file that was made in it! Besides some other bugs, I've found that a new file 8 x 5.75 x 0.75 after saving will not reopen. If you create one that is 8 x 6 it won't open either, but one that is 8 x 6.1 will!? There are some other combinations that won't reopen either, but it seemed that after 10 x 10 it may work ok.
If you want a raster pocket with a conventional final pass instead of climb, your out of luck.
If you do any pocket toolpath and then view/rotate in 3D, you have a column that extends way above your material.
Robert stated "Right now plastering "Powered by ArtCam" on the screen as this program starts is not earning them any points."
It's not going to earn ShopBot any points/respect either. They would be much better served by using someone like Vectric to develop something like "ShopBot Cut Pro"!
Since PW doesn't earn ArtCam the exorbitant fees that their other products do, the bug fixes are few and far between.

Scott,
Yes v3 is a little 'buggy'. Call ShopBot concerning this. I believe that they may have an immediate solution for you.

I have finally purged myself of PW3. I'm running PW2 when and where needed but mostly rely on VCPro and Corel X3.
Scott... you might call ShopBot as Brady suggested, I don't know how many files you have created, but see if you can get a copy of PW2. There really are not many improvements from PW2 to PW3. With PW2 being the older version surely ArtCam would allow any PW3 license holders to have PW2... maybe.

No need, I've only created one real file (can't reopen it though). I'll stick with VectorXT and VCPro for now. ;-)
