Help with DXF file for PartWorks 3D

I have a 3D DXF file I created in AutoCAD. This sucker is huge 500+ Megs. I am trying to load it into PartWorks 3D, but every time I do it has a heart attack and freezes up. Any suggestions?

I don't think you have enough memory for any of these apps to load a file that big. You may need to find a way to slim down the size of your file if thats possible. Sometimes its a matter of the format you save it in. Is it the type of file you can segment into more than one file and split up?

Sounds like an awful big file for some reason, did you "purge" the dwg file in AutoCad before you converted it to a DXF ?

Is it some sort of 3d surface? A Linework file could hardly become that large.

You may have to break it down into few steps or you may have some unwanted items in the file.

3D DXFs, like the one Matthew indicated, are notoriously large in size. If possible, try to export the file in STL binary format. I don't believe AutoCAD lets you decimate, but search the Help file to be sure, before export. If you imported a 3D DXF from a SB probe file, then the SBP file can be worked in other ways to get what you need.

Not sure how you created your 3d file, but DXF also has problems with fauceted surfaces. There are no curves in DXF only lines and flat faces. It approximates curves and curved surfaces with tiny line segments and flat faces, that's why your files are so large. STL can generate large files sizes as well if you're not careful.
