How about some links to go with this?

I have some 1" thick foam that I have laminated a sheet of .040" aluminum to. I need to profile cut some shapes. I would like to make the first cut so that it just barely cuts through the .040 aluminum - and then have a couple successive cuts that will finish off the 1" foam backer thickness. Would this be best done with running 2 seperate profile cut files or is there a setting in Aspire to make just the first cut as deep as I wish?

You would need two different profile cuts. One thing I don't like but I can understand it is a preference thing is if you set your depth of cut to .25" then have a cut depth of .30" it will not cut .25" then finish off with the last .05". Rather it will cut .15" and .15". So when I do my "skin" cuts I have to run a second toolpath.

Why would I do this? Well, turns out I may cut through 1" foam and find if I make the last cut only .1 or .05" it will stay in place. I can cut the first 98% in a single pass then the last 2% is so light of a cut it doesn't cause the part to move.

Just a preference thing in function, I can see both sides of the reasoning.

I follow you Robert. I posted the same question at vectric and got some info I personally didnt know...

I want to cut this with the metal facing up on the table.

I did a toolpath for cutting the skin down from top of piece to .070. I then did another toolpath for the foam to 1.070. Then I saved the 2 toolpaths in the same cutfile with the metal one on the top and it worked great. It cut the metal skin first and then jumped to 1/4" passes (my max depth setting) and cut the foam.

I just posted to show what I ended up doing. Thank you for your response!
